COVID-19 Instrument Hire Help

We understand at these difficult times that some families will be finding payment of these invoices challenging, especially where you might have significantly reduced incomes. We do not want to let money be a barrier to your child continuing to learn on the instrument they have chosen and we have made funding available to support this. Auditions open for NYJO Academy Big Band

Published
28.07.2017

The NYJO Academy is very pleased to announce that it is holding auditions for NYJO Academy Big Band in September 2017.

news

The band, led by drummer Sebastiaan De Krom, is the NYJO Academy’s flagship ensemble and its role is to equip talented young musicians with a solid foundation in the big band genre – helping to prepare them for entry into the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, further education or the music profession.

The NYJO Academy Big Band is structured around a series of ‘projects’ centred around the work of a particular composer or genre, such as Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus or Loose Tubes.

Over the past year the band have played at world class venues including the Barbican Centre and the Royal Albert Hall and have taken part in workshops with guest artists such as Allen Vizzutti and Ingrid Jensen.

We’re looking for young musicians under the age of 20 (no minimum age) who are strong improvisers with sight reading ability, who are keen to improve their section playing and gain an in depth understanding of the big band tradition and its future.  Applications are open to all musicians who play saxes, trombone, trumpet, guitar, piano, bass and drums.

For more information please visit www.nyjo.org.uk [expired]

The deadline for applications is Monday 21st August.

If you have any questions please contact Deborah Bankole, Learning & Participation Coordinator on deborah@nyjo.org.uk or call 020 7494 1733.
