COVID-19 Instrument Hire Help

We understand at these difficult times that some families will be finding payment of these invoices challenging, especially where you might have significantly reduced incomes. We do not want to let money be a barrier to your child continuing to learn on the instrument they have chosen and we have made funding available to support this. Welcome to the Cotswold Music Tutors
Summer Music Courses 2021.

There are 4 courses running concurrently, junior, senior, jazz and string
starters. The courses are looking forward to being located for the first time
at Chosen Hill School, Churchdown, running from 9am til 5pm.
Students spend the mornings and late afternoons playing in a range of
ensembles, coached by an experienced team of fun and professional staff.
There are full orchestral rehearsals, string and wind ensembles, chamber
music and sectional work. Their work will culminate in 2 concerts.
Afternoons are a time for socialising, fantastically led by Andy Farrington
and his energetic and friendly welfare team, doing a range of fun organised
non-musical activities, activity workshops, rounders, and of course Quidditch!
Students often enjoy setting up their own informal ensembles/ choirs
etc during the lunch breaks.

The courses are open to children aged 7-18.

• String Starters Course (4 day course: mon 26th–thurs 29th July)
We guide and nurture our youngest musicians on our ever-popular and fun
String Starter Course. This course is designed for string players up to grade
1 standard. Violins, violas, cellos and double bases all welcome. Children
must have had a minimum of 10 lessons. Please note also that the minimum
age for the courses is 7 years old. The course is an excellent way for
children to begin to learn to play in a group. The emphasis is very much on
confidence-building and lots of fun!
String Starters will perform in the concert on Thursday.

• Junior Music Course (5 day course: mon 26th–fri 30th July)
Cathy Hill will be conducting and coaching the junior musicians through a
variety of musical styles on this fun-packed course, alongside our wonderful
wind, brass and percussion coaches. This course is suitable for students
from grade 1 to 4/5 standard. Students will explore a diverse range of music.
There will be full orchestral rehearsals, as well as separate string and wind/
brass ensembles. To enable the students to make the best possible progress
throughout the week, they will also have sectional rehearsals, during
which coaching staff can offer detailed help and guidance.
The course culminates in 2 concerts, one on Thursday, and the final orchestral
concert on Friday evening. The junior and senior courses combine for a
massed item, to be performed in Friday’s Grand Finale Concert.

• Senior Music Course (5 day course: mon 26th–fri 30th July)
Experienced conductor Jon Trim will be directing our senior musicians once
again, joined by our other very experienced wind, brass and percussion
coaches. This course is suited to students from grade 4/5 to 8+ standard.
There will be full orchestral rehearsals, and separate string and wind/
brass ensembles. To enable the students to make the best possible progress
throughout the week, they will also have sectional rehearsals, during
which coaching staff can offer detailed help and guidance. Students will
also be grouped into chamber music ensembles - string quartets, trios, wind
quintets, etc.

The course culminates in 2 concerts, one on Thursday, and the final orchestral
concert on Friday evening. The junior and senior courses
combine for a massed item, to be performed in Friday’s Grand Finale Concert.

• Jazz Course (4 day course: mon 26th–thurs 29th July)
Led by the fantastically knowledgeable and talented multi-instrumentalist
Andy Rushton, The Jazz Course caters for those musicians who have grade
3 ability upwards. The course is open to those students who play Woodwind,
Brass, Percussion and Piano. You will play a diverse range of music
from Gershwin to Getz, Ella to Ellington. Students will have plenty of opportunities
to increase and extend improvisation techniques. The 4 day
course includes sessions in basic Melodic, Harmonic and Rhythmic Jazz
composition. The course culminates in a showcase gig on Thursday.
